Would you like to take an adventurous nature tour?

The famous Lake Mývatn, in the north of Iceland, has a population of thousands of birds and was created by the unusual interaction of water and volcanic eruptions. In this award-winning book, Unnur Jökulsdóttir guides us through the wonderland of the lake and its environment, whose landscape and plant and animal life are distinctive and captivating. She explains how the land was formed, takes part in the annual bird census, visits ducks’ nests and hunts for dwarf char with the locals, and examines midge swarms as well as tiny water creatures. She also reminisces on the lake balls that used to be so prominent in Mývatn, and tells about the trout fishing that was such a vital part of human life at the lake but has greatly decreased in recent years.

Unnur vibrantly describes all of this, guided by affection, curiosity, and passion. Translated by Philip Roughton.
